Man puts daughter through college on Willy Dog profits
Sam Jacobsen of Sacramento grew up in a lower income household in Southern Texas. His parents were both immigrants and because English was their second language they were forced to take a series of low end jobs mostly as farm hands and as cleaners. They did not have much money but were able to make enough to put food on the table for Sam and his four brothers and three sisters. Giving their children a good education was not in the cards. Sad to say, basic survival came first.
Sam promised himself that when he had kids he would make sure they were able to have the education he could not have. Even at that Sam spent the first 35 years of his life doing just what his parents had done….work for others at lower end jobs. Well Sam and his wife made the decision about 10 years ago to become self employed. They put together all the money they had; about $2800.00 and bought a beautiful new hot dog cart from Willy Dog ( www.willydogs.com ). The cart from Willy Dog 10 years ago cost $2500.00 and they had $300.00 left over to by supplies. They bought the cart from the Top Dog at Willy Dog, Will himself. “Will was always very busy but he always made time for us” says Sam. “He made sure we were comfortable and ready” said Sam’s wife and partner Helga. “After a few weeks we were making a better pay check working for ourselves with a Willy Dog cart than we ever made working for others” said Sam, “plus it’s a lot more fun too!”
Now after 10 years their daughter, who is already 20 years old is in her second year of university studying languages. The pride shows on Sam and Helga as they stand beside their still shiny and clearly well cared for Willy Dog cart.
According to Sam, the investment and risk was all worth it. Comparing to his life before, Sam admits he feels really blessed and thankful for the good results of his business.
